Appendix A – Instructor Notes

This note is written to help instructors to setup the laboratory computers correctly for the students. If you are using the DAQ Training Kit in a self learning mode, please setup your computer accordingly so you can complete the instruction guide without problems.

Parts List

  • DAQ training kit from EmAnt Pte Ltd. This comprises

  • EMANT300 Low Cost USB DAQ module

  • Light Application Adaptor

  • USB Cable

  • CD containing LabVIEW Driver and solutions to the problems in this instructional guide (please visit www.emant.com for updated software)

  • LabVIEW development System ver 7.0 or later (from National Instruments Corp)

  • NI-VISA (from National Instruments Corp, comes with LabVIEW)

Install Software

  1. You must have already installed LabVIEW ver 7.0 or later on your computer. NI-VISA must also be installed because the EMANT300 uses the serial communication VI from the VISA library. Please refer the installation guide from National Instruments if you need help.

  2. Copy the contents of the EMANT300 CD supplied by EmAnt Pte Ltd to a new folder. Download the latest version from www.emant.com. You should have the following 3 folders. Folders a & b are from the CD and you create folder c.

  • Learn DAQ and LabVIEW folder – contains the solution VI to all the exercises

  • Driver & Example VI folder – contains the EMANT300 driver

  • Working VI folder – storing the programs that you will create over the next few exercises.

Connect the DAQ Training Kit to the PC

If this is the first time, you are connecting the USB DAQ module to your PC, you must first install the USB driver. Please read the EMANT300 installation guide and follow its instruction. After the installation is successful, proceed to the next step.
